The 2019 growing season began in Idaho. There were uncertainties as to what the year would hold for us, but our love for growing had us planting a full garden and filling the greenhouse anyway. We grew flowers for a local spring festival in SW Idaho, and I spent hours sewing a new canopy top for our stand. The event was a success, and we spent the remainder of the summer tending our garden and preserving food.

By August, it was clear we would be moving back to our roots in Missouri, so we packed up what plants we could fit and made the long journey back “home”. The place we had been living in before the the move out west had been vacant for the year and a half we had been gone, so when we came back there was quite a bit of catching up that had to be done. If you live in Missouri you know it doesn’t take long for the “jungle” to take over. It took us about a week to get the weeds and grass chopped to a manageable height. Then we were planting again. We put in a small fall crop of vegetables and set up what potted plants we had brought back with us.

2019 was another year filled with trials and hard decisions to make, but we’ve learned to make the best of every situation, and our takeaway was clear:

Home is where your garden is!
